Ron McCarthy, 03/14/1960 – 03/18/2024 (64)

A cherished member of the Golden community passed away peacefully at his home after a courageous 5-year battle with cancer. His unwavering fight with this vicious disease left us all inspired by his tenacity and positive outlook.

Ron’s friends and family will forever remember him either poolside, at his piano, writing and performing his incredible music, or fixing anything and everything.

Ron leaves behind a legacy of love, generosity, and resilience. Though he may no longer walk among us, his spirit will continue to shine brightly in the memories of those who were fortunate enough to know him.

Our forever lifeguard.

Ron McCarthy Legacy Scholarship

Introducing the Ron McCarthy Legacy Scholarship, a tribute to a man whose musical spirit resonated deeply with all who knew him. This scholarship is dedicated to empowering students at Wheat Ridge High School who share Ron’s passion for using music as a catalyst for creating community.  **PleaseClick Here for the Go Fund Me**
Music wasn’t just a skill for Ron; it was his language, his connection to the world. Music was Ron’s vehicle to fill space with positivity, for forging connections. He brought people together through jam sessions. He motivated chemo patients with his songs.  He shared chapters of his life through his lyrics. Ron had a special way of finding a unique rhythm in everyday moments and encapsulating it in music.
Ron loved playing his music for others. His living room doubled as a recording studio, and he welcomed anyone who shared his love for music. You didn’t have to be musically talented to join his tribe; he simply asked people to bring kindness, a good sense of humor, and perhaps a box of popsicles.
This scholarship aims to support young individuals who, like Ron, use music to build bridges, inspire connection, and provide a sense of belonging to all. It’s for those who understand that the true big stage is not one of fame, but of love and friendship. Join us in honoring Ron’s legacy by supporting the next generation of community builders and music enthusiasts.
Ron’s Personal Creed was based on a poem, “Desiderata,” written in 1927 and shared with many of his friends.

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible, without surrender, be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even to the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons; they are vexatious to the spirit. If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain or bitter, for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans. Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs, for the world is full of trickery. But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals, and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection. Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment, it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.

Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune. But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings. Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself. You are a child of the universe no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should. Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be. And whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life, keep peace in your soul. With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.
