Judy and Pat Madison have lived, worked, and raised their families in Golden during the past 40 years. Judy retired from Golden High School after teaching art for 20 years. She’s a well-known pottery artist. Pat worked and taught at the Colorado School of Mines and then started Golden Software. He ran Golden Software for 30 years in downtown Golden and then sold the company.
Q: Please tell us about your current, past, or future career/accomplishments. What do you love most about what you do?
Judy is an active ceramic artist and has lived in the Golden area for 45 years. Her work has been exhibited in many local and regional galleries and shows. Judy retired as a teacher of Ceramics and Sculpture from Golden High School. She has served on the board of directors at Foothills Art Center. Judy is the mother of a grown son and a grown daughter. Pat is on the board of directors of the Rotary Club of Golden, the Golden Civic Foundation and Miners Alley Performing Arts Center. He is a past officer of the Golden Fire Department. Pat is the father of two grown daughters.
Q: What are a couple of your favorite restaurants or breweries in our community?
We enjoy the variety and menus of all of Golden’s restaurants and breweries. Date night: Bella Colibri and Abejas. Celebrating birthdays: Woody’s & Bridgewater Grill. Pre-theater dinner: Nosu Ramen & Table Mountain Grill & Cantina. Have a beer: The Golden Mill, Golden City Brewery, Mountain Toad, New Terrain.
Q: How long have you lived or worked in our community?
We have been lucky to have lived and worked in the Golden community. Judy has been here 45 years, Pat 40 years.
Q: What is one of your favorite hiking or biking trails?
There are plenty of great hikes in and around Golden. Our favorites include Chimney Gulch, Beaver Brook, the trail to the top of Golden’s Castle Rock, White Ranch, and the developed trails along Clear Creek.
Q: What advice would you give to yourself 10 years ago?
To teach ourselves and families to be kind, caring, fun, and considerate people. Work towards a greater understanding and help where it’s needed. Make our lives a positive statement.
Q: What current or former local business makes you the most nostalgic about our community?
We miss Meyer Hardware and Foss Department Store and restaurant. Both businesses were friendly, helpful, and homegrown. They were fun to shop. We’re thankful for the Meyer building being converted to a performing arts center and the Foss building having unique shops.
Q: What is your favorite thing or something unique about our community?
The Golden community has such a wonderful group of nonprofits, churches, schools, government buildings, and the Colorado School of Mines.
Q: What is something interesting that most people don’t know about you?
Judy runs the ceramics program at the Foothills Art Center’s Creative Campus, and Pat has some outside sculptures around the community.

Our blended family.
